Visitors are Most Welcome

Bentley Village resides in the county of Hampshire close to the Hampshire/Surrey border and is positioned almost mid-way between the Surrey market town of Farnham and the Hampshire market town of Alton. The village can be found just off the A31 about 5 miles Southwest of Farnham and nestles in a small shallow valley through which flows the River Wey. Binsted village can be found about 3 miles south of Bentley and on the Eastern side of the River Wey.

In recent years Bentley has been the subject of much media attention through "The Village" programme which was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and later followed by a series on Meridian TV. Visitors to the site should note that while the radio and TV series focused on one set of priorities and objectives, this WEB-site does not seek to mirror that focus.

The Bentley & Binsted Village WEB-site has been structured to provide both villagers and visitors alike with insight and access to the various and differing aspects, events, businesses, environments and elements that serve to form the infrastructure of the local community. It is intended to be a "Local Chronical".or a "Window" into the two closely related villages.

By far the most significant change which has confronted Bentley in recent years was the construction of the Bentley by-pass. Originally promised just after the end of the second world war Bentley had to wait until 1995 for the final delivery of its by-pass. While the by-pass certainly addressed a major traffic problem it has been quoted also as the most radical change to the village in the last 100 years.

Bentley will certainly never be the same again! ... yet it remains much as it has always been.

How to find the villages

From the Farnham (North East) direction:
From the north east direction locate the main A31 Trunk Road and Farnham. Leave Farnham on the A31, via the Coxheath Roundabout, and proceed along the A31 in the direction of Alton. After about 4 miles of dual-carriageway you will come to a sign indicating the slip-road for Bentley and Bentley Station. Take this slip-road off the main A31, it is the only entry point to the village from this direction. At the top of the slip road turn right for the centre of the village. A few hundred yards later, after crossing the bridge over the new by-pass, you will reach the main cross-roads marking the centre of the village.

From the Alton (South West) direction:
From the south west direction locate Alton town and the main A31 Trunk Road which runs towards Alton and Farnham from the Winchester direction. The A31 by-passes Alton town and leads directly towards Bentley and Farnham. After by-passing Alton proceed along this road for about 4 miles until reaching the sign indicating the slip-road for Bentley and Bentley Station. Take this slip-road - it is the only entry point to the village from this direction. At the "bottom" of the slip road turn left and then immediately right at the next junction. Follow this road for about 1 mile into the centre of the village.
